Stephen Cranford, Partner, Cognitive Solutions – Cross Industries, Global Business Services

Steve Cranford joined IBM in October 2015 as a Partner on the Cognitive Business Solutions team responsible for Cross Sector cognitive solutions activities and creating and taking to market a repeatable cross-industry solutions process and portfolio featuring Watson

Steve has an extensive history of spearheading business start-ups in the “Big 4” as well as a private equity backed company specifically in the area of Business Intelligence (BI), data warehousing, knowledge management and enterprise decision management orchestrating all market dynamics.  This included building a Global Data Warehousing and BI practice for KPMG Consulting from $0 to $250 MM over a five year period, securing $50 MM in private equity funding to launch a new business focused on BI and knowledge-based solutions and starting the BI and Enterprise Decision Management practice for PwC.

Prior to joining IBM he founded the Intellectual Property (IP) business unit for Capgemini’s global Financial Services practice with a focus on developing the strategy and vision specific to driving digital transformation through a ‘repeatable solutions’ business model.  The emphasis was on cloud-centric, digital social and mobile solutions that looked to bring the right information to the right people at the right time while driving higher margins for Capgemini.  The IP initiative was viewed as “disruptive and transformational” and aimed to position Capgemini as a global leader in the emerging cloud and digital world.

Brian Walter, IBM Watson Group

Watson Global Industry Leader, Banking , Financial Markets and Wealth Management

Brian Walter is the Global Industry Lead for Banking and Financial Services and Global Wealth Management within The IBM Watson Group. Watson is one of the most significant innovations in the company’s 103 year history and represents a new era of information technology.

Brian’s responsibilities include solutions design and product management for Wealth Management and Banking, leading transformation programs for Watson FSS Clients, leading global go to market activities and use case development.

Additionally, Mr. Walter is a key member of the group responsible for evaluation and recommendation for acquisitions and partnerships within the Watson Financial Services organization.

Mr. Walter has over 30 years of consulting and management experience within the Financial Services sector. Prior to joining IBM, Brian held multiple executive positions including: creation and delivery of strategic solutions, software development, head of operations, company acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and client acquisitions.

In his professional career Brian has launched, built and sold 3 businesses in the internet and financial services domains.

During this period he was one of the early pioneers of commercial application of the internet and built some the earliest and most innovative commerce sites including Best Buy.com, J Crew.com, American Airlines.com. He also led the early development of internet transaction sites of Fidelity, HSBC, Citi, and Merrill Lynch.

Mr. Walter is a frequent speaker at industry events and analyst briefings and author of a number of White Papers on the impact of digital and cognitive computing.
